Why I Started

I am a mother of 5 children, 3 biological, 1 foster and an adopted daughter with special needs. I am a movement therapist and a music teacher and I implement a lot of the fun movement techniques at home and see good results.

After 21 years of parenting, I have gained so much wisdom and insight on how to engage kids, reduce meltdowns, encourage cooperation, develop communication skills and avoid fights and I wanted to share with other parents.

I frequently am asked advice by random people when they see me interact with my special needs daughter and so I thought I would share my style with a wider audience.

How I Do It

I blog by video clip a few times per week. I do it often from the peace and quiet of my car where I can focus without disturbance.

I have given my daughter a code name so as to respect her privacy and I refrain from details that are too revealing, but show some difficult moments which are filled with the most learning experience.

I include moments from real life where we might be in hospital or dealing with a camp or school situation and I show how to make those times supportive, flowing and encouraging for the child to bring out her humor and not her negativity.

Advice

  • I have found that talking directly to the camera makes the blog personal and real. I have limited time and don't want to read long essays, so I share from the heart.
  • MY blog is my way of introducing myself BUT I strongly suggest using my movement course, which gives the essence of my movement techniques that can support and direct families with special needs children.
