How Long It's Been Online

Since August 2010

Why I Started

I was adding a lot of updates to Facebook about how my daughter was doing, but living far away from friends and family, many people didn't know the whole story of her Asperger's Syndrome diagnosis. Starting the blog was a way of explaining autism to people I know who weren't personally affected.

How I Do It

Usually five days a week, Monday-Friday. I quite like having a self-imposed deadline. I'm currently a stay-at-home-mother, so it keeps me on schedule. I also write once a month for Hopeful Parents, a blog for parents of kids with special needs. I get pretty personal with details, but we use aliases for security reasons.

I usually write the post the night before, after the kids are put to bed. Some crazy mornings I do it while they are eating their breakfast.

Advice

  • Just start -- the sooner the better. Blogging is like free therapy, and nothing else to do with raising our kids is free!
