From the article: Gluten-Free Candy
I've gathered up manufacturers' lists of gluten-free treats, but sometimes it takes parents researching and calling and trying to get the real scoop on what's safe and what's not. Have you found some great gluten-free treats for your sensitive child -- or found some that didn't work out at all? Share what you've found here to guide other parents (though since ingredients and company policies do change, parents should still check out all tips for themselves). Share Your Research

gluten free goodies
- I just recently found out that all tootsie products are definitely gluten free, and checked with the company, and yup, they are! However some are not dairy free, Dots however are both, and are great for those times when hard candies just don't fill the need. Happy snacking!!

Re: Smarties
- The catch is that in Canada Smarties are a chocolate covered candy similar to M&Ms while in the U.S. Smarties are what we in Canada refer to as Rockets. :) Hopefully this helps.

Smarties are NOT gluten free
- I called Nestle and confirmed that there is gluten in the candy shell. The side of each package lists wheat flour also. Always read the ingredients and not rely totally on what you read on the internet... although thank goodness for it!

Gluten-Free candy
- Go Naturally has hard candy flavors- cherry, apple and honey. My son likes the cherry a lot. Florida Naturals has a chewy bites like gummy bear consistency with different flavors but smaller pieces. He also loves these.

Gluten free name brand candy
- While researching restaurants that have a gluten free menu, I discovered that Baskins Robbins has one. The Reese flavor and Snicker flavor ice cream are gluten free, according to their web site. I researched it a little further, and sure enough, those 2 candies as well as the ice cream, are gluten free. Thank goodness, we have quite a sweet tooth! :)
